FACTS AND TRIVIA – Things We Take For Granted

When you think you’ve heard it all or you think you’ve known enough, that’s when you realize you don’t actually know as much as you think you do.

Here are some jaw-dropping trivial facts that would probably make you laugh, make you wonder and/or make you think.

Did you know?

  1. Richard Versalle, a tenor performer at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House suffered a heart attack and fell 10ft from a ladder to the stage just after singing the line “You can only live so long” – mentalfloss.com
  2. The average person has over 1460 dreams a year. – 77facts.com
  3. A baby can cost new parents 750 hours of sleep in the first year – mentalfloss.com
  4. The longest bout of hiccups lasted nearly 68 years; apparently, Charles Osborne, a farmer born in Iowa had the hiccups non-stop for approximately 68 years from 1992 to June 5th, 1990. It is estimated that he hiccupped over 595,680,000 times in his lifetime.

The doctor’s report showed that he burst a blood vessel in his brain which damaged the part of the brain that inhibits the hiccup response, after he accidentally fell on his farm while weighing a pig for slaughter. Strangely, the hiccup suddenly stopped a year before Osborne’s death. – todayifoundout.com

This goes to show that we should appreciate the life that God has given us. The case of Charles Osborne reminds us of the little (vital) things that we normally take for granted. The story brings to mind  the news of the little boy in Lagos reported to have burst into tears after discovering that the woman he was begging from was in fact breathing with the aid of an oxygen tank.

Irrespective of what your situation or circumstance may be, remember there is someone out there who might be going through worse.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thess 5:18)
